How much does an accountant cost in Romania? (2026 prices)

Real 2026 price ranges for Romanian accounting: local market rates, English-speaking service rates, and what drives the price up or down.

The short answer

For a small Romanian company, local mass-market accounting commonly costs a few hundred RON per month. English-speaking, international-grade service typically runs from about €100 to €300+ per month, depending on document volume, VAT status, payroll and cross-border complexity. Our own packages start at €99 + VAT per month and are published in full.

Romanian accounting prices are rarely published, which makes the market hard to read from abroad. Here is how it actually breaks down — and what moves the number up or down.

What the market actually charges

The Romanian market splits into two very different products. The first is local mass-market accounting: built for Romanian-speaking owners, priced at a few hundred RON per month for a small company, and perfectly adequate when the owner reads Romanian, visits the office and has purely domestic activity. The second is international-grade service: everything delivered in English, foreign payment platforms and bank statements handled routinely, cross-border questions answered in writing. That level typically costs €100 to €300+ per month at the review date.

The two are not the same product at different prices — a foreign founder using a local-market firm usually discovers the gap at the first question that needs an answer in English, or the first Stripe payout that needs booking.

What drives the price

DriverWhy it matters
Document volumeEvery invoice, receipt and bank line must be recorded — volume is the single biggest cost factor.
VAT registrationAdds periodic returns, intra-community reporting and a monthly compliance rhythm that must never slip.
PayrollEach employee means REVISAL records, the monthly D112 declaration, payslips and employer cost calculations.
E-commerce and platformsStripe, PayPal, Amazon or marketplace settlements multiply transaction lines and reconciliation work.
Cross-border complexityForeign shareholders, intra-EU flows and treaty questions require senior time, not data entry.

The cheapest-option risk

Underpriced accounting fails in a predictable way: too many clients per accountant, so your file gets minutes per month. Filings slip, SPV notices go unread, e-Factura discrepancies accumulate — and the penalties plus the cleanup cost more than the savings ever were. Many of our clients arrived exactly this way; the takeover process is described in our switch-accountant guide.

  • A price far below market is a capacity signal, not a bargain.
  • Ask any candidate firm what is included, what costs extra, and what happens when volume grows — in writing.
  • Check responsiveness before signing: a slow reply to a sales enquiry never gets faster after you become a client.

Frequently asked questions

Why does English-speaking service cost more than local accounting?
You are paying for a different service level, not a markup on the same work: reports and support in English, familiarity with Stripe, PayPal, Wise and foreign bank statements, cross-border tax questions answered in writing, and an accountant who works comfortably with a non-resident owner. Local mass-market firms are built for Romanian-speaking owners who visit the office.
Are there setup or hidden fees?
Reputable firms charge a one-time onboarding fee for taking over your accounting — reviewing the current status, verifying opening balances, setting up SPV and e-Factura access. Ours is published openly and waived in defined cases. Anything outside the monthly scope should be quoted in writing before work starts, never billed as a surprise.
What happens to the price as my company grows?
Expect the fee to step up when document volume rises, when you register for VAT, when you hire employees, or when cross-border flows appear. A transparent firm defines these steps in advance so a price change is never a negotiation ambush.
Is the cheapest accountant a real risk?
Often, yes. The classic failure pattern is a very cheap firm with too many clients per accountant: filings go out late or wrong, questions go unanswered, and nobody monitors SPV or e-Factura. Penalties and cleanup usually cost more than years of the price difference.
