Switch accountant

Switch your Romanian accountant without breaking anything.

Unanswered emails, surprise penalties, reports you can't read? Moving to a new accounting firm is simpler than it looks — when the handover is done in the right order.

To change accountants in Romania you need a handover file from the old firm (trial balance, journals, declarations), verified opening balances, and a transfer of SPV / e-Factura access. We run this as a fixed checklist, in English, and your filings continue without interruption.

How the takeover works

Six steps, most of them ours to do.

StepWhat happens
1 · Confidential reviewYou tell us where things stand — we look at your last filings and current setup, free of charge.
2 · Handover checklistWe send your old accountant the standard request list, and chase it until complete.
3 · Opening balancesWe verify the trial balance we inherit — errors surface now, not at your next tax inspection.
4 · SPV & e-Factura accessElectronic access to ANAF's systems is transferred to us and tested.
5 · Missing filings identifiedAny gaps or errors from the past are listed with a fix plan and a written cost.
6 · New monthly rhythmYour recurring workflow starts: documents in, filings out, plain-English summary every month.

Signs it's time to switch

  • You find out about deadlines from penalties, not from your accountant.
  • Questions take weeks to answer — or the answers are in Romanian legalese only.
  • You have no idea what your tax position is until something is due.
  • Your accountant cannot work with Stripe, PayPal, Wise or foreign bank statements.
  • You suspect filings are late or missing but cannot verify it yourself.

What you risk by waiting

Late or missing filings accumulate penalties and interest, and unverified books get more expensive to clean up the longer they run. A takeover review costs you nothing and tells you exactly where your company stands — even if you decide to stay where you are.

Frequently asked questions

Is switching accountants in Romania complicated?
No — but it must be done in order. Your new accountant requests a standard handover file (trial balance, journals, asset register, payroll files, prior declarations), verifies the opening balances, and takes over SPV and e-Factura access. Done properly, your filings continue without a gap.
When is the best moment to switch?
Any month-end works. Year-end is tidiest because the annual statements close the old period, but you should not wait out a bad situation — an unresponsive accountant creates more risk each month.
Will my old accountant block the handover?
They are professionally obliged to hand over your company's accounting records — the documents belong to your company, not to the accountant. We prepare the request list for you and follow up until it is complete.
What if there are missing filings or errors in the old books?
We identify them during the takeover review and tell you plainly what we found, what it costs to fix, and in what order. You decide with full information — no surprises billed later.
Do I need to be in Romania for any of this?
No. The handover, SPV access and all filings are handled electronically. You sign a few documents digitally.
